Thanksgiving Game Plan

Thanksgiving is a meal that can strike fear in the heart of even the most organized homemaker. These 10 ideas should help you plan not only for Thanksgiving, but for any holiday meal you may be hosting.

  1. Make a Game Plan

  2. Make your menu but simplify by sticking to the basics and delegate where possible

  3. Gather all recipes together in a folder

  4. Make a grocery list

  5. Get your appliances and serving dishes ready – did your broiler stop working and you haven’t gotten around to fixing it? Take inventory of linens, chairs, serving dishes

  6. Schedule your shopping and prep across the 2 weeks prior

  7. Plan decorations

  8. Make a Thanksgiving Day timeline

  9. Label serving dishes-setting aside containers for leftovers

  10. Sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labor! Bon Apetit!

One of the keys to managing your hosting stressors is START NOW with planning and shopping and gathering. The other key is DELEGATION. Share the load of the day with willing attendees, either to bring dishes or come early to help set up, manage décor, etc. Think of yourself as the project manager – you can plan it all but you don’t have to do all the work!

No matter how the preparations go, don’t forget to take some moments to breathe and be truly grateful for our abundance and the opportunity to gather with our loved ones in person again.
