Rest in Peace Right Now! Get Your Affairs in Order
One of the greatest gifts you can leave those you leave behind is having your affairs in order. But what does that mean exactly? Many of us have (or know we should have) a will or trust but truly having your affairs in order is so much more than that:
- Where do you keep your online passwords?
- Does anyone else know how to unlock your phone?
- What do you own and what do you owe?
- How do you want people to remember you?
- What do you want to have happen to your remains?
- Have you thought about who will take care of your pets?
- If you have kids, have you designated a custodian?
- If you have a business, especially as a sole proprietor, do you have a closure plan?
Taking YOUR time now to organize and define even some of these things creates quality time for you and your loved ones while you’re around and – importantly for them – when you’re gone. Relieve them of the stress of trying to navigate the mystery of your financial and legal obligations while they are also trying to deal with the grief of losing you.
Free Resource for You
For many of us we like the idea of getting our affairs in order, but the thought of doing it is completely daunting and overwhelming! But we’re linking a workbook which can help you take the process step-by-step.
One of our colleagues, Jeanne K. Smith, made this the focus of her organizing business for over 30 years. She called her business Exit Stage Right®. She recently passed away from cancer and as a legacy gift she has made her workbook “Exit Strategies: A Plan and A Place for Your Estate Information©” available for FREE on her website. The workbook is divided into 8 sections with downloadable worksheets for each section.
Even if you only get through a few of them, your loved ones will be grateful.
